Start Here: Find CO2 Fast
New to CO2? This hub gets you moving in under 60 seconds: pick a lane (exchange vs refill), choose a tank size, and jump into the directory with filters applied. No encyclopedia vibes.
Quick path (lowest drama route)
If you want the simplest option
- Start with exchange.
- Choose a size you can store: 10 lb (tight space) or 20 lb (fewer trips).
- Use the directory filters and call ahead if you’re unsure.
If you care about cost long-term
- Try refill (but expect policy differences).
- Ask if they refill customer-owned cylinders and whether yours must be in-date.
- Compare refill vs exchange so you don’t “save money” by wasting time.
Choose your lane
Most “CO2 confusion” is just people using different words for different services.
Swap your empty cylinder for a full one. Usually fastest and most available.
They fill your exact cylinder. Often cheaper, sometimes slower. Call ahead.
Often for smaller bottles. Policies vary. Always ask specifically.
Pick a tank size that won’t annoy you
5 lb
Compact starter size. Great for tight spaces. More frequent swaps/refills.
10 lb
The “manageable and reasonable” choice. Easy to store, still decent runtime.
20 lb
Best value for many setups if you have space. Fewer trips. Heavier to move.
“I can’t find CO2 anywhere.”
Try these moves first
- Switch to exchange (usually broader coverage).
- Try different supplier types: beverage gas, welding, homebrew, paintball.
- Ask the question in their language to avoid a “no” that means “I don’t understand.”
- Use the map if the directory results feel thin in your area.
Ask better questions
- “Do you exchange CO2 cylinders?” (5/10/20/50 lb)
- “Do you refill customer-owned CO2 cylinders?”
- “Does it need to be in-date/hydro-tested?”
- “Do you have walk-in service or drop-off only?”
Help improve the directory (fast + useful)
This directory gets better the boring way: corrections, new suppliers, and policy notes. If you find a place that refills/exchanges CO2, send it in and we’ll verify it.
